A recent raid by heavily armed police officers in the Adjiringanor area of Accra over a land dispute has raised serious concerns. The raid, which left three people wounded, is allegedly linked to a power struggle between businessmen and the Nungua Stool, with some police officials accused of using the name of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to influence the outcome of the dispute. Akanu, Volta Region – Officers of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) at the Akanu Sector Command, in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority-Customs Division, have intercepted a truck smuggling cocoa beans to Togo. The interception, based on intelligence, took place at the Ave-Havi border post. The truck, with registration number AS 2103-W, was driven by Ibrahim Fatawu and was found to contain 1,115 gallons filled with cocoa beans. Authorities have handed over the seized cocoa beans to COCOBOD, while the truck has been impounded, and the driver is assisting in further investigations. The Ghana Immigration Service has issued a strong warning to smugglers, urging them to desist from activities that harm the nation’s economy and deprive the government of vital revenue. GIS also commended border communities for their vigilance and cooperation in safeguarding Ghana’s borders.
