Labour Commission schools partners in educations sector

The National Labour Commission (NLC) has convened a significant meeting with key social partners in the education sector to address pressing issues that have led to industrial disputes over the past four years. This initiative is part of the Commission's broader medium-term strategy aimed at identifying and resolving the underlying problems that frequently trigger conflicts within the industry, as well as evaluating the current state of labour unrest. Family Health University College (FHUC), has been honored with the prestigious Presidential Charter, and is now Family Health University (FHU), which marks a significant milestone in the history of the Institution. Family Health University has become the first and only private chartered University in Ghana with a Medical School.  His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo conferred the Presidential Charter on the Institution at a ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Thursday, 19th of January, 2024. Development is most impactful when it addresses the specific needs of people. Yet, a recurring mistake by government officials, agencies, and organizations is making decisions in isolation, assuming what a community needs without consulting them. While intentions may be noble, the outcomes often result in wasted resources and unmet expectations. Communities are unique, with priorities that vary widely. One community may urgently need a toilet facility to address sanitation challenges, while another may struggle with access to clean water. Without proper consultation, providing a project misaligned with a community’s needs renders the intervention ineffective. Engaging with people is essential. Governments, NGOs, and stakeholders must prioritize dialogue with traditional authorities, opinion leaders, and residents to identify pressing needs. Anti-Corruption Campaigner Urges Mahama to Embark on Judicial Clean-Up

Anti-corruption campaigner Robert Akeyom has called on President-elect John Dramani Mahama to initiate a comprehensive clean-up of Ghana’s judiciary. He alleges that some judges appointed to the Supreme Court and High Court are prioritizing partisan interests over their constitutional duties. Speaking on the state of Ghana’s judiciary, Akeyom expressed grave concerns about political interference in the judicial system. Drawing from personal experiences, he accused certain judges of eroding public trust. He singled out Justice Abena Dadzie of the Commercial Court, Accra, for alleged partisanship, criticizing her promotion to the Court of Appeal as undeserved. Sino Africa Alleges Intimidation in Land Dispute

Sino Africa, a subsidiary of Jospong Group, has accused Kwame Blay, son of former NPP National Chairman, Freddie Blay, of seizing 29 acres of their 328-acre land in Borteyman, Nungua.  According to the company, Kwame Blay has claimed 29 acres of their land through Royal Bell Investments Limited and Terraform Development Limited, companies believed to be owned by him, adding that his father was also using his influence as a member of the ruling NPP government to back his son’s actions Sino Africa said Freddie Blay's son was not only using armed land-guards but police officers to protect his illegal activities on the land. CDD-Ghana Unveils Shocking 2024 Election Incident Report

The Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) has revealed findings on incidents recorded during the 2024 general elections, citing a total of 76 separate cases. These incidents were disclosed at a press conference by Nana Kwabena Aborampah Mensah, Senior Programs Officer at CDD-Ghana. The breakdown includes 24 cases of destruction, seizure, vandalism, and invasion of public facilities. For instance, ballot papers and pink sheets were destroyed at collation centers, and Electoral Commission offices in Damongo and Ayensuano Constituencies were set ablaze. Six deaths were reported, including the shooting of Haruna Shaibu, a 31-year-old steel bender, at the Nyankpala lorry station in the Tolon Constituency. Another victim, Mukila Ziblim, died from a stray bullet in Damongo during collation. Additionally, 46 injuries were recorded, with three individuals in critical condition. Superior Prophet Michael Opoku Nkansah, the successor of the late Superior Prophet David Nkansah II and head of the church worldwide, addressed a press conference to announce the landmark ruling by the Adenta High Court. The conflict began nearly three years ago when Prophet Michael Opoku Nkansah was appointed as the church’s Superior Prophet following the passing of his predecessor.
