ACEG Accuses NPP of Post-Election Manipulations, Calls for Accountability
The Arise for Change for Economic Growth (ACEG), a group affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has raised concerns over alleged electoral fraud and irregularities following the recently concluded 2024 general elections.
Addressing the media at the Accra Freedom Center on December 17, 2024, ACEG National Chairman, Economist D.S. Mahama Iddrisu, expressed gratitude to Ghanaians for voting John Dramani Mahama as president-elect and ensuring a parliamentary majority for the NDC. He also commended party members, observers, and the media for safeguarding the electoral process.
However, Mr. Iddrisu detailed incidents where the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Electoral Commission (EC) allegedly attempted to manipulate results in key constituencies, including Effutu, Damongo, and Techiman. He accused NPP candidates of bribing EC officials and swapping pink sheets to alter outcomes, though vigilant citizens and ACEG executives exposed these efforts.
ACEG further criticized the partisan conduct of some police personnel, particularly during the re-collation process in Tesano, where court orders were reportedly blocked. Mr. Iddrisu also alleged that outgoing NPP officials, including President Akufo-Addo and his Chief of Staff, were issuing allocation chits to clear goods at ports, describing the act as unacceptable.
The group condemned attempts to sabotage the incoming government, including the destruction of documents at district assemblies and misuse of state resources. ACEG called on NDC members to oversee local offices, including NADMO, DVLA, and Ghana Water branches, to prevent corruption cover-ups.
Debunking claims that President-elect Mahama will cancel the Free SHS policy, Mr. Iddrisu urged Ghanaians to embrace the 24-hour economy initiative, which he believes will create immediate employment opportunities in critical sectors like the Passport Office, DVLA, and Ports and Harbors.
ACEG concluded by urging transparency, accountability, and cooperation to ensure a smooth transition while calling for investigations into alleged post-election misconduct by outgoing NPP officials.
