Haruna Iddrisu Announces GETFund Support for Four Universities
In a major step toward strengthening Ghana's tertiary education sector, the Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has announced a GH¢40 million seed funding package for emerging public universities. This significant investment, channeled through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), was revealed on Saturday, June 21, 2025, during the 5th Congregation of the C.K. Tedem University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) in the Upper East Region.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour, Minister Iddrisu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering equitable development among Ghana’s newer universities. “This government is fully committed to nurturing our young public universities, ensuring they have the necessary resources to develop and provide quality education that meets the demands of our evolving economy,” he said to a round of applause from graduates, faculty, and stakeholders.
According to the Minister, each of the four selected institutions will receive GH¢10 million as part of the 2025 GETFund-approved formula. The beneficiary universities are:
C.K. Tedem University of Technology and Applied Sciences
University of Energy and Natural Resources (UNER)
University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS)
S.D. Dombo University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (SD-UBIDS)
The funding will support critical developmental projects, improve research capabilities, and upgrade learning infrastructure—enhancing the educational experience for students and helping position Ghana as a hub for quality higher education.
The move has been widely praised as a timely intervention to accelerate the growth of these institutions and promote innovation, especially in underserved regions.
