Energy Ministry Backs Cross-Border Electricity Integration
The Chief Director of Ghana’ Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Solomon Adjetey Sowah, has reaffirmed Ghana’s strong commitment to deepening regional energy cooperation through the WAPP 330kV Double Circuit Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana Interconnection Reinforcement Project.
Speaking at a high-level meeting, Mr. Sowah welcomed energy leaders and technical experts from both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire, including representatives from GRIDCo, CI-ENERGIES, the West African Power Pool (WAPP) Secretariat, and consultant Studio Pietrangeli.
He praised the progress made through the feasibility study, describing it as the outcome of months of rigorous technical collaboration and a pivotal step in the realization of a cross-border energy infrastructure that promises to significantly boost power reliability and integration between the two countries.
Beyond reviewing the study, the meeting also aimed to formalize commitments through the signing of legal instruments that will establish a robust framework for cooperation. Mr. Sowah stressed that this legal foundation would ensure transparency, trust, and joint responsibility in the project’s execution.
He assured the gathering of the Ministry’s full support and readiness to contribute expertise, resources, and institutional backing to drive the successful implementation of the project.
The meeting marks a major step forward in the West African regional energy integration agenda, which aims to foster sustainable development, energy security, and economic growth across member states.
