Interior Minister Unveils 24-Hour Economy Policing System
The Minister of the Interior has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s security architecture, announcing the establishment of a Secretariat for the 24-hour Economy Policing System. Speaking at the Ghana Police Service Regional Commanders’ Meeting on Friday, March 21, 2025, the Minister emphasized the need for a security framework that aligns with the country’s evolving economic landscape.
“The economy operates around the clock, and so must our security,” the Minister stated, stressing that businesses, workers, and citizens need assured protection regardless of the time of day. This initiative, he explained, will enhance crime prevention and ensure a safer environment for economic activities across the country.
As part of broader security reforms, the Minister highlighted the re-activation of the Police Public Relations Officers (P.R.O.s) Program. A three-day orientation has been organized for regional and unit P.R.O.s to improve public engagement, promote transparency, and strengthen community policing efforts. “We are bringing policing closer to the people,” the Minister noted, underscoring the importance of public trust in law enforcement.
In addressing rising violent crimes, the Minister assured Ghanaians that the police administration, led by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno, is resolute in tackling criminal activities. He commended President John Dramani Mahama’s appointment of COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah as a Technical Advisor to the Ministry, noting that her expertise would enhance crime-fighting strategies.
“No Ghanaian should live in fear,” he declared, adding that targeted interventions will be deployed to protect mobile money vendors and vulnerable businesses.
The Minister also reassured the international business community of Ghana’s commitment to maintaining a secure investment climate. “Ghana remains a safe and attractive destination for business,” he stated, pledging the government’s continued collaboration with security agencies to uphold law and order.
Concluding his address, the Minister urged Regional Commanders to remain steadfast in their duty, emphasizing that a safer Ghana is the foundation of national prosperity.
