78 GIS Officers Recalled, Disciplinary Process Awaits

The Comptroller-General of Immigration (CGI), Samuel Basintale Amadu, has recalled 78 officers from interdiction, reaffirming his commitment to discipline and due process within the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS). The recalled officers consist of 14 senior officers and 64 other ranks, who were previously interdicted for their alleged involvement in recruitment and visa scams, among other offenses.

Speaking at a meeting with the recalled officers at the National Headquarters in Accra, CGI Amadu clarified that the recall does not amount to an amnesty. Instead, the officers will undergo internal disciplinary procedures to determine their culpability. Those found guilty of misconduct will face appropriate sanctions.

The CGI emphasized that disciplinary issues would no longer be prolonged under his administration, as he aims to ensure accountability and maintain the Service’s professional standards. He warned the officers against repeating past misconduct, particularly regarding fraud, recruitment malpractices, and visa irregularities. Such cases, he noted, would be forwarded to the Police for further investigation.

For officers eligible for promotion, CGI Amadu assured that proper evaluations would be conducted in light of the outcomes of the disciplinary proceedings. He encouraged the recalled officers to exhibit professionalism and maintain the Service's image at their new postings.

Accompanying the CGI at the meeting were his deputies: Mr. Laud Affrifah (Operations and Command Post), Mr. Isaac Owusu Mensah (Finance and Administration), and Assistant Commissioner Immigration (ACI) Phillip Peter Andoh (Legal Research and Monitoring), as well as Deputy Commissioner of Immigration, Michael Asare Bediako, Head of the Human Resource Department.

CGI Amadu reiterated the importance of discipline, respect for both superiors and subordinates, and the need for hard work, urging the officers to uphold the dignity of the Ghana Immigration Service wherever they are stationed.
