Ghana Eyes Renewables for Energy Sustainability – Jinapor

Ghana is ramping up efforts to diversify its energy sources with a strong focus on renewable energy, including solar, wind, and mini-hydro projects. Minister of Energy, John Jinapor, made this known during a panel discussion on "Delivering Affordable, Accessible and Sustainable Energy Solutions for Africa" at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues (APD) 2025 in Accra.

Jinapor emphasized that Ghana’s transition to green energy is essential for reducing reliance on fossil fuels, improving energy access, and ensuring long-term sustainability. He highlighted the country's vast renewable energy potential, noting its abundant sunlight for solar power, strong coastal winds for wind energy, and numerous rivers suitable for mini-hydro projects.

According to the Minister, Ghana’s commitment to renewable energy aligns with its industrialization goals under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He reiterated that investing in clean energy would not only lower the country’s carbon footprint but also provide reliable and affordable power for economic growth.

With a push toward sustainability, Ghana is positioning itself as a leader in Africa’s energy transition, leveraging renewables to secure a resilient energy future.
