Disability Community Fights to Protect Atule’s YEA Appointment

The Disability Community in Ghana has vowed to fiercely protect the appointment of Mr. Jacob Adongo Atule as Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), resisting any alleged attempts from elements within the Jubilee House to overturn the decision.

On Thursday, January 30, 2025, members of the disability community gathered at the YEA National Office to usher Mr. Atule into his new position, only to be informed that his office keys had been taken by an unidentified individual.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Atule revealed that shortly after receiving his appointment letter, signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, he received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Jubilee House, who stated that his appointment was a "mistake."

His appointment, officially dated January 27, 2025, was made by the President of Ghana under the Youth Employment Agency Act, 2015 (Act 887), pending advice from the governing board and the Public Services Commission.

Dr. Richard Fiadomor, National Chairman of the NDC Disability Desk, expressed the community’s frustration, highlighting that the party’s manifesto promised that 5% of government appointments would be given to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). However, Mr. Atule’s appointment is the only one they have seen so far.

"As far as the disability community is concerned, Mr. Atule remains the Deputy CEO of YEA until the government issues an official revocation letter," Dr. Fiadomor stated.

The community has vowed to resist any attempt to undermine Mr. Atule’s appointment, emphasizing their determination to ensure equal representation and inclusivity in government positions.
