Ghana Police Strengthen Post-Election Security, Urge Unity and Peace
In the wake of Ghana’s recent general elections, the Ghana Police Service has intensified efforts to maintain peace and order across the country. Under the leadership of ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Head of the Public Affairs Directorate, the police have implemented a strategic three-phase plan—pre-election, election day, and post-election—to safeguard democratic processes and ensure stability.
During the pre-election phase, the police collaborated with stakeholders, gathered intelligence, and provided critical support to the Electoral Commission. On election day, security teams were deployed nationwide to monitor activities at polling stations and collation centers.
Currently, in the post-election phase, the police have ramped up joint patrols with the military and intelligence operations in communities. This has led to the arrest of 107 suspects linked to acts of lawlessness, with 106 cases now progressing through the legal system.
To further bolster these efforts, a special investigative team has been reviewing footage and reports to track down additional perpetrators. “We are committed to identifying and arresting all individuals involved in unlawful activities,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi affirmed.
The police have also been actively engaging political party leaders and other stakeholders to promote unity and discourage the spread of misinformation. “Let us work together to preserve the peace we have cherished, proving once again that Ghana has triumphed in democracy,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi stated.
With a combination of enforcement, dialogue, and community collaboration, the Ghana Police Service remains steadfast in its mission to protect citizens and uphold the nation's democratic values.
