Peace Gathering 2024: Scouts and Guides Urge Ghanaians to 'Fly the Flag for Peace

The Scout and Guide Fellowship Ghana, led by President Mr. Andrew Botchwey, has launched Peace Gathering 2024 (PG 2024), an initiative aimed at fostering unity and promoting peace across Ghana as the country approaches its December elections. Speaking at the event, Mr. Botchwey highlighted the critical role that unity plays in national progress, urging Ghanaians to come together and celebrate their shared identity.

This year’s theme, "A Call to Unity: Fly the Flag for Peace," encourages citizens to embrace national pride and harmony. One of the main events under PG 2024 is the Kumasi to Accra Peace Walk, scheduled from November 21 to November 29. Scouts will trek from Kumasi to Accra, carrying a powerful message of peace and unity. Mr. Botchwey emphasized that the Peace Walk is not just a physical journey but a symbolic call for all Ghanaians to come together and take pride in their nation.

The initiative also calls on Ghanaians to display the national flag proudly during the Peace Walk week. By displaying the Ghanaian flag at homes, workplaces, and in public spaces, citizens can express their commitment to peace, unity, and national pride, as a pledge to protect the nation's stability and progress.

Coinciding with Fellowship Day, the address also paid tribute to the roots of the global Scout and Guide Fellowship, which was established on October 25, 1953. Since then, the Fellowship has grown to include chapters across the world, including Ghana, which established its branch in 2003 under the leadership of Commissioner Dr. Edward Mettle Nunoo Cassidy. Now with over 500 members, the Ghana chapter continues to uphold the values of scouting through community initiatives, youth support, and volunteer activities.

In his closing message, Mr. Botchwey encouraged members to reflect on the spirit of the recent ISGF World Conference held in Granada, Spain, and to carry forward the values of unity, peace, and service. “May we continue to inspire, connect, and uplift one another in the true spirit of Scouting and Guiding,” he said.
