New Platforms Boost Youth Skills and Agribusiness
Ghana has taken a significant step toward addressing youth unemployment and revitalizing agriculture with the launch of two major digital platforms, the Youth Xplore App and the National Youth Tracker. The initiatives were unveiled by the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, George Opare Addo, Esq., as part of a broader national strategy to empower young people with practical skills and economic opportunities.
Speaking at the event, the Minister described youth unemployment—currently estimated at 22.5%, with young women the most affected—as one of the most urgent challenges confronting the nation. He emphasized that solving the problem requires a coordinated, systems-driven approach across all sectors.
Opare Addo explained that the Youth Xplore App and National Youth Tracker are designed to serve as centralized gateways for young Ghanaians to access skills training, job openings, mentorship, and entrepreneurship support. These tools, he said, will ensure that the youth are better prepared for meaningful employment and active participation in national development.
He further highlighted Ghana’s paradoxical situation: despite importing over $2.2 billion worth of food annually, many young people remain unaware of the wealth-generating opportunities that exist within the agricultural value chain. To change this narrative, the Ministry also launched the AgTractive campaign, an initiative aimed at encouraging the youth to adopt modern, technology-enabled agriculture as a lucrative career path.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, Opare Addo stressed that youth development systems are being rebuilt to become fair, transparent, and results-oriented, ensuring that young people receive real benefits from national programmes.
He called on stakeholders—from government agencies to private sector partners—to support the new initiatives and help secure a prosperous future for Ghana’s youth.
