Lokko Family Decries Illegal Construction on Land
A Ghanaian couple, Dr. Daniel Lokko and Dr. Mrs. Doretta Lokko, have raised alarm over what they describe as persistent and unlawful encroachment on their land at Dzornaman, Adjiriganor, in the Greater Accra Region, despite multiple court injunctions issued in their favour.
The couple say they are distressed by ongoing construction activities on the disputed land, including the erection of multi-storey apartment buildings, in open defiance of existing court orders. They allege that the trespass is being carried out with the tacit support of some senior officers of the Ghana Police Service, a situation they say undermines the rule of law.
Speaking to the media, a spokesperson for the Lokko family, identified as Ali, said the family has held a valid land title certificate covering the property for over two decades. According to him, the matter is currently before the court, yet unknown individuals continue to enter the land and undertake major construction works.
Ali explained that efforts to identify those behind the development have so far proven futile. Workers on the site have reportedly refused to disclose the identity of the property owner or the foreman in charge of the project. However, the family suspects one individual, Obed Ewiah, to be involved, based on covert surveillance they say they have carried out.
The Lokko family maintains that the continued encroachment, in spite of court injunctions, raises serious concerns about enforcement and respect for judicial authority. They are therefore calling on all persons involved in the construction to come forward and submit themselves to the court process.
The family has warned that if those responsible fail to engage them through lawful means or through their lawyers, they will pursue all available legal remedies, including possible demolition of any structures found to have been erected illegally.
“We urge the individual or group behind this development to meet us in court or through our lawyers. If they refuse, we will take every lawful step necessary to protect our property,” the family stated.
