TOR MD applauds engineers as refinery nears full revival

The Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) is steadily rising to its feet again, and at the heart of this resurgence is a team of determined Ghanaian engineers whose skill and dedication are propelling the facility toward a full comeback. This was the inspiring message from TOR’s Managing Director, Edmund Kombat, as he addressed attendees at the induction ceremony of the newly elected executives of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), Ghana.
IET honoured TOR’s MD for leadership in changing the narrative of the refinery and urged him to do more as they are fully behind him and ready to assist him with all the needed supports.
With optimism and renewed purpose, Mr. Kombat announced a significant milestone: TOR is on track to become fully operational by the end of the year. The declaration was met with applause, symbolizing the collective hope that the refinery—once a pillar of Ghana’s energy sector—will soon reclaim its full strength.
The ceremony itself was more than a formal transition of leadership. It became a celebration of the engineers whose ingenuity and resilience have fueled TOR’s recent breakthroughs. Mr. Kombat described them as the backbone of the refinery’s transformation, emphasizing that their expertise has been crucial in navigating the complex technical processes required to bring the facility back to life.
Beyond operational success, the revitalization of TOR carries broader national implications. According to Mr. Kombat, a fully functional refinery will help boost Ghana’s local refining capacity, reducing dependence on imported petroleum products. This, he noted, will not only strengthen the country’s energy security but also unlock significant economic benefits within the downstream petroleum sector.
