Reel Connections: UniMAC-IFT Celebrates Creative Excellence

The Institute of Film and Television of the University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC-IFT) is set to open its doors once again to the public as it hosts its second Open Day Event, to showcase the creative talents, academic achievements, and industry readiness of its students.

The annual event scheduled for November 14, 2025 at the Cantonments campus of UniMAC-IFT, will highlight UniMAC-IFT’s pivotal role in shaping Ghana’s next generation of media and creative professionals on the theme: Reel Connections; Telling Our Stories Together.
It will feature multimedia exhibitions, studio demonstrations, and interactive sessions for faculty, students, and industry stakeholders to celebrate creativity, innovation, and the future of media arts. The event is expected to attract prospective students, parents, alumni, media practitioners, and representatives from Ghana’s growing creative and communications industry.
Marian Mantey, Head of the Media Unit and Public Relations Officer at UniMAC-IFT says the upcoming event promises to be vibrant and engaging. “There’s going to be a lot of energy on the grounds. Personally, I’m really looking forward to it”.
In an interview she shared that this year’s Open Day will take on a refreshed format designed to engage a broader audience. “We’re not only inviting students from senior high schools,” she said, “but also stakeholders and industry professionals. We’re reaching out to the Creative Arts Agency, the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Independent filmmakers, and even the local community surrounding the school. We’ve extended invitations to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) as well. This isn’t just about showcasing our campus it’s about strengthening ties with our stakeholders.”
Reflecting on the success of the first edition, Marian Mantey highlighted the tangible benefits the institute has already seen. “The most notable impact was the increase in admissions for the following academic year. We also received generous support, Ramesh Jai and Ivan Quashigah, an alumnus of IFT and now Chairman of the National Film Authority, donated tripods and continues to offer guidance. His involvement is a tremendous asset to the institute.”
UniMAC-IFT, formerly known as the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), has been in existence since 1978. Its programmes include Film Directing, Television Production, Motion Picture Photography, Editing, Film Sound Production, Broadcast Journalism, Animation, Multimedia Production, and Production Design.
Since its inception, the institute has offered professional education, with a vision to continuously build the best media arts training school in Africa and beyond.
