MoGCSP Probes Viral Video Attack on Woman

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has forcefully condemned a disturbing incident captured in a viral social media video, in which a man, believed to be a landlord is seen brutally assaulting a woman alleged to be his wife.

According to the Ministry, the act is not only barbaric and unacceptable but also a clear violation of the fundamental rights and dignity of the victim. In a statement, the Ministry stressed that no individual has the right to subject another person to any form of abuse under any circumstances, emphasizing that such actions are punishable under Ghanaian law.

The Gender Minister has already contacted the Ghana Police Service, urging a swift, thorough investigation to ensure the perpetrator faces the full consequences of his actions. The Ministry further encouraged eyewitnesses and anyone with relevant information to assist the police to expedite justice.
Describing domestic and sexual-based violence as a national emergency, the Ministry called on the public to actively report abusive behaviour as soon as it is detected, warning that silence only emboldens perpetrators and endangers victims.

MoGCSP reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with partner institutions to strengthen the fight against domestic violence, stressing that protecting women, children, and vulnerable persons remains a top priority.
The Ministry also reminded the public to use the Domestic Violence Call Centre on 000-111-222 or the Helpline of Hope on 0800-800-800 / 0800-900-900, or report to the nearest police station for immediate assistance.
The statement, issued by the Public Affairs Unit, assures the nation that the Ministry will not relent in ensuring accountability, justice, and safety for all victims of abuse.
