Lands Ministry Confirms Officer Dies in Tragic Operation Crash

  


The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has been thrown into mourning following a tragic accident that claimed the life of a member of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) taskforce.
The fatal incident occurred on Wednesday near the Obuasi Airport area while a five-member NAIMOS team was on a critical anti-galamsey operation within the enclave. The team was reportedly heading to a hotspot as part of intensified efforts to curb illegal mining activities when their vehicle was involved in a crash.
One taskforce member died on the spot, while four others sustained serious injuries. The injured officers are currently receiving emergency medical treatment.
In a statement, the Ministry expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing the fallen officer as a dedicated frontline personnel committed to protecting Ghana’s natural resources. The Minister extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured officers a speedy recovery.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has also launched a full-scale investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Officials say they remain committed to safeguarding the welfare of all frontline operatives engaged in the fight against illegal mining, assuring that affected personnel and their families will receive all necessary support.
