Interior Minister Assures Transparent, Safe Security Recruitment

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, has announced major reforms to ensure a smooth, transparent, and safe recruitment process into Ghana’s internal security services. He made the announcement on Thursday, November 14, 2025, during a press conference at the Information Services Department, following the tragic stampede at the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise earlier in the week.
Before addressing the media, the Minister led a minute of silence in honour of the six applicants who lost their lives during the incident. He conveyed the government’s heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wished the injured a swift recovery.
Hon. Muntaka emphasized that the unfortunate development necessitated an immediate review of recruitment timelines. As a result, the Ministry of the Interior has postponed the start date for applications from November 15 to November 17, 2025, as a mark of respect for the victims and their families.
He reaffirmed government’s commitment to addressing unemployment, noting that recruitment into the internal security services plays a critical role in job creation and national development. The opportunity, he stressed, equips young Ghanaians with professional training and the capacity to contribute meaningfully to national security and economic growth.
Robust E-Recruitment System Unveiled
The Minister detailed new measures designed to guarantee a seamless, safe, and corruption-free process. Key among them is a centralized E-Recruitment Portal that harmonizes recruitment across all agencies under the Ministry. The system, he said, is highly secure, user-friendly, and capable of handling large volumes of applications.
Applicants will be able to purchase forms through GCB Bank branches nationwide or via a dedicated USSD code from home. The online application process will be fully accessible on smartphones, computers, and tablets.
Hon. Muntaka announced that multiple screening centers would be opened nationwide, with applicants automatically assigned to specific locations by the system to prevent overcrowding. No center will host more than 1,000 applicants at a time, and screenings will be staggered—ensuring the Police Service completes its screening before another agency begins.
The Ministry will also provide several 24/7 helpline numbers to assist applicants and address concerns.
Recruitment Not for Sale
The Minister took a firm stance against corruption and racketeering, insisting that the recruitment process would be strictly merit-based. He dismissed rumours that slots had already been allocated and warned that anyone attempting to sell recruitment opportunities would be arrested.
“There will be no middlemen. Anyone who engages with such people does so at their own risk,” he cautioned, urging the public to report fraudulent individuals.
Call to Patriotism and Service
Hon. Muntaka encouraged all eligible young Ghanaians to apply, describing the recruitment as an opportunity to serve the nation in a noble and impactful capacity. He assured the public of dignity, fairness, and accountability throughout the exercise.
He concluded by thanking the security agencies for their cooperation and the public for their understanding, expressing confidence that the new system would deliver a safe, efficient, and credible recruitment process.
