Gender Ministry Condoles Families of El-Wak Tragedy Victims

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede that occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium in Accra on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, during the Ghana Armed Forces recruitment exercise. The incident claimed six lives and left several others injured.

In a statement, the Ministry extended its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and loved ones of those who lost their lives. It said the Ministry shares in the grief of affected families and prays for strength and comfort for them in this difficult time.

The Ministry also commended the compassionate response President John Dramani Mahama, acknowledging his fatherly gesture in reaching out to the victims and their families.

Highlighting the broader implications of the tragedy, the Ministry noted that the incident underscores the vulnerability of individuals—particularly women, children, and persons with disabilities—in crowded public gatherings. It therefore called for the adoption of protective, gender-sensitive safety measures during such large-scale events.

The Ministry further urged relevant stakeholders to conduct thorough investigations into the incident and ensure that future recruitment exercises incorporate better crowd control mechanisms and support services for vulnerable groups.

It concluded by once again extending its deepest sympathies to all affected families, praying for the souls of the departed to rest in perfect peace.
