Fire Officers Gain New Insurance Protection
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has taken a major step toward improving the welfare and protection of its personnel through a new partnership with SIC Life Insurance Ltd. The two institutions on Wednesday signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Ministry of the Interior to introduce a comprehensive insurance scheme for all fire officers.
The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, who witnessed the signing ceremony, praised the Chief Fire Officer, Madam Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, for her transformative leadership and dedication to the Service. He also acknowledged President Mahama for his continued support to the security sector, describing the initiative as a demonstration of government’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and welfare of frontline officers.
Under the MoU, a Welfare Fund will be established for fire officers using the total 21st annual premium contributed by the GNFS. The fund will provide vital support for retired officers and their families, ensuring long-term financial relief for personnel who risk their lives to protect the nation.
Hon. Mubarak highlighted the daily dangers fire officers face and stressed the need for strong insurance protection that would not only motivate them but also offer a safety net for their future.
Chief Fire Officer Ntow Sarpong expressed appreciation to SIC Life for the partnership and assured that her administration would work tirelessly to ensure the success and sustainability of the scheme.
Managing Director of SIC Life, Mr. Solomon Twum Barimah, commended the Minister for the initiative and disclosed that the insurance package will include coverage for critical illnesses, further expanding the support available to GNFS personnel.
SIC Life is expected to embark on staff engagement sessions to educate officers on the details and benefits of the scheme. The newly created Welfare Fund will be managed by the Chief Fire Officer to support retired personnel.
The MoU marks a significant milestone in the welfare advancement of Ghana’s fire officers and deepens the collaboration between GNFS and SIC Life.
