ESPA Urges Calm as Negotiations with Government Continue
The Environmental Service Providers Association (ESPA) has suspended its planned nationwide strike following positive engagements with the Government of Ghana over outstanding arrears owed to waste management companies.
In a statement signed by the Executive Secretary, Ama Ofori Antwi, the Association confirmed that the Minister for Local Government and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Ahmed, has reached out to ESPA’s leadership for urgent dialogue aimed at resolving the long-standing payment challenges confronting members.
According to the statement, the Minister assured ESPA of the government’s commitment to process and settle the arrears owed to waste management service providers “within the shortest possible time.” The discussions are also expected to establish sustainable policy and funding mechanisms to strengthen the waste management sector.
“In light of these positive engagements, we urge all member companies to suspend the planned nationwide strike originally scheduled to take effect on November 7, 2025,” the statement said. “We strongly advise members to continue their normal operations as leadership works closely with government to reach a mutually beneficial resolution.”
The Association also commended its members for their patience, resilience, and commitment in delivering essential sanitation services despite the financial challenges. ESPA emphasized that continued dialogue with government would help stabilize the sector, safeguard jobs, and ensure uninterrupted waste collection and sanitation services across the country.
ESPA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of its members and ensuring that Ghana’s waste management infrastructure functions efficiently for the public good.
