Education Ministry Moves to Fix Labone SHS Furniture Crisis
The Ministry of Education has assured the public that the furniture shortage at Labone Senior High School in Accra is being addressed urgently. Recent reports by The Mirror and Daily Graphic indicated that some newly enrolled Form One students were sitting on the floor during lessons, while others had to use dining hall benches as makeshift classroom furniture.
According to the Ministry, Labone SHS formally requested 3,282 mono desks through the Ghana Education Service (GES). The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has approved the request, with delivery of the desks expected to be completed by Monday, 24 November 2025.
This intervention is part of a broader government programme to provide 200,000 mono desks to 100 priority double-track senior high schools transitioning to a single-track system. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to closing furniture gaps across all second-cycle institutions and ensuring a safe, supportive, and conducive learning environment for every Ghanaian student.
The Ministry also pledged continued collaboration with GES, GETFund, and other key partners to deliver necessary infrastructure that promotes effective teaching and learning nationwide.
