Cenpower Leads 300 Volunteers in Sega Beach Cleanup
Cenpower Generation Ltd, owner of the Kpone Independent Power Plant (KIPP), has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability and community partnership with the third edition of the KIPP Clean Project held at Sega Beach in Kpone in the Greater Accra Region.
The event, which coincided with Cenpower’s Financial Close 10th Anniversary and the National Sanitation Day, brought together more than 300 volunteers, including Cenpower staff, students of Kpone Methodist A Basic School, members of the Kpone Traditional Council, officials of the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Assembly, and residents of the local community.
Supported by Excelior Solution Services, specialists in waste management and coastal sanitation, the cleanup exercise yielded over 250 tonnes of plastic and general waste—an increase from the 200 tonnes collected in 2024.

Municipal Chief Executive of Kpone Katamanso, Hon. Samuel Tetteh Kwarshie Morton, commended Cenpower for its sustained investment in community development and environmental health.
“We are happy to participate in this third edition of the KIPP Clean Project, especially on a day set aside as National Sanitation Day,” he said. “Cenpower’s inclusion of students instills environmental responsibility early on, and we applaud the company for its continued support to our community.”
Cenpower’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Theophilus Sackey, described the initiative as a “symbol of continuity and purpose,” emphasizing that the company’s mission goes beyond power generation to include environmental stewardship.
“This project is not only about cleaning a beach—it’s about building a legacy of care for our environment and engaging our community in meaningful ways,” he said.
Representing Cenpower Operations and Services Ltd (Cenops), Chief Finance Officer Mr. Shmuel Brew Butler highlighted that supporting the cleanup aligns with the company’s operational and corporate responsibility goals.
“Our responsibility extends beyond energy provision to include the well-being of the communities in which we operate,” he noted.
Earlier in the week, Cenpower staff visited Kpone Methodist Basic School to educate students on cleanliness, recycling, and marine life protection—further reinforcing the company’s commitment to environmental education and behavioural change.

Chief Technical Officer Mr. Michael Wiafe praised participants for their teamwork, remarking that “each bag of waste collected is a step toward a cleaner environment and a healthier ecosystem.”
Senior executives including Chief Financial Officer Mr. Peter James and Director of Legal and Corporate Affairs Ms. Elizabeth Akin Taylor were also present to support the event, which forms part of Cenpower’s 10th Anniversary celebration under the theme of “Powering Progress Responsibly.”
