Global Agrofood Expo Boosts Ghana’s Industrial Ambitions
The 7th International Agrofood and Plastprintpack Exhibition has opened in grand style at the Accra International Conference Centre, gathering exhibitors and industry leaders from 15 countries to explore the future of agriculture, food processing, and packaging in West Africa.
Participating nations include China, Egypt, Germany, Ghana, India, Kenya, the Netherlands, Nigeria, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, the UAE, and Côte d’Ivoire — all showcasing groundbreaking technologies and sustainable solutions to power Africa’s agri-food transformation.
In his remarks, Mr. Paul Maerz, Managing Director of Agrofood Ghana, said this year’s event reflects strong international collaboration aimed at positioning Ghana as a regional hub for agro-industrial excellence.
“Our focus is on driving investment, promoting innovation, and ensuring sustainable growth within Ghana’s agri-food value chain,” Maerz stated.
The exhibition features national pavilions that highlight the latest industry trends — including the Netherlands Pavilion spotlighting sustainable agri-tech, the ITC Pavilion uniting exhibitors from Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, and the South Africa Pavilion showcasing advanced packaging and food technology solutions.
According to organizers, Ghana’s agri-food sector continues to expand rapidly, with imports of food and beverage technology rising from $59 million in 2017 to $80 million in 2024. With the nation’s population projected to reach 80 million by 2050, Ghana is set to emerge as one of Africa’s fastest-growing consumer markets.
A representative of the German Embassy in Ghana commended the country’s efforts in promoting climate-smart agriculture and green industrialization. He reaffirmed Germany’s partnership with Ghana in building climate resilience and advancing circular economy models adapted to local needs.
Maerz concluded by applauding Ghana’s leadership in sustainability and innovation, emphasizing that the country’s policies and initiatives are now shaping the global dialogue on sustainable agro-industrial growth.
