LEAP Cash Grants Increased, Coverage Hits 400,000

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has announced a significant upward adjustment in the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) cash grants as the government commences the 96th cycle of disbursements across the country.

At a press event held on Monday, 30th June 2025, Dr. Lartey disclosed that the cash grants have been indexed against inflation to safeguard their real value and ensure that beneficiary households continue to experience meaningful improvements in nutrition, health, education, and economic participation.

The new payment structure sees the grant for a one-member household increase from GH₵256.00 to GH₵320.00. Two-member households will now receive GH₵380.00, up from GH₵304.00; three-member households will receive GH₵440.00, up from GH₵352.00; and households with four or more eligible members will now get GH₵530.00, an increase from GH₵424.00.

Dr. Lartey noted that the government has allocated GH₵953.5 million to the LEAP Programme in the 2025 budget, marking a significant rise from the GH₵728.8 million allocated in 2024. As part of broader efforts to reduce poverty, the number of beneficiary households is set to increase from 350,000 to 400,000, with a reassessment exercise currently ongoing to facilitate the expansion.

For the 96th cycle (March–April 2025), a total of GH₵139.26 million is being disbursed to 350,000 households across 260 districts nationwide. The disbursement began on June 23, 2025.

Beneficiaries include orphans and vulnerable children, elderly persons aged 65 and above without support, persons with severe disabilities who cannot work, and extremely poor pregnant women or lactating mothers with infants under one year.

The Minister urged beneficiaries to prioritize nutrition, education, savings, and income-generating activities to maximize the impact of the grants and contribute to the achievement of national social protection goals and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

She also expressed gratitude to development partners for their continued support and called for further collaborations to expand and improve the programme.
