Vote Rebecca Ekpe for GJA Vice President

Rebecca Ekpe, a respected journalist and long-time advocate for media development, has officially secured the second position on the ballot paper for the upcoming Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) elections. She is contesting for the position of Vice President in the much-anticipated polls scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025.

Ekpe’s placement was confirmed during the official balloting process held by the GJA Elections Committee on Friday, June 13, at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra. Out of the 13 vetted national candidates, 12 participated in the draw, with one candidate withdrawing from the Treasurer race.

Known for her integrity, accessibility, and unwavering commitment to the welfare of journalists, Rebecca Ekpe is widely seen as the choice of the Ghanaian media. Her campaign has gained momentum across newsrooms, with many journalists endorsing her candidacy as one that truly reflects their values and priorities.

“I believe the Ghana Journalists Association must be a strong voice for its members and a pillar for press freedom and professionalism,” Madam Ekpe stated after filing her nomination. “I am committed to building a more inclusive, responsive, and empowered Association that works for every journalist.”

Rebecca Ekpe’s campaign is anchored on four key pillars: promoting professionalism in journalism, strengthening institutional reforms within GJA, expanding access to training opportunities, and enhancing safety and welfare protections for members. She is promising not just words, but real action grounded in accountability.

“As Vice President, I will prioritize the creation of opportunities for capacity building, professional advancement, and member welfare,” she said. “I stand ready to serve—not with promises, but with action and accountability.”

Her record of service and leadership has earned her the trust of many in the profession, who now see her as the natural candidate to help steer the Association toward greater relevance and resilience in Ghana’s rapidly changing media environment.

She has also called on all eligible journalists to come out in their numbers and vote on June 30. “This is not just about winning an election, it’s about building a GJA that reflects who we are and what we aspire to become,” she said.

Rebecca Ekpe is number two on the ballot paper. Come June 30, she’s urging all legible voters to choose progress, professionalism, and purpose, by choosing her.
