Media Rallies Behind Rebecca Ekpe’s GJA Bid
Editor-In-Chief of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and current Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Madam Rebecca Ekpe, has officially declared her intention to contest for the position of Vice President in the upcoming GJA national executive elections.
Widely regarded as the journalists’ choice, Madam Ekpe’s bid is inspired by her unwavering passion for media growth and development, as well as her dedication to championing the welfare of journalists across the country.
Her decision to run marks a significant step in her evolving leadership journey within the GJA, following a successful term as Public Affairs Officer of the Association. With a career marked by excellence, both locally and internationally, Madam Ekpe enters the race with a wealth of experience in media practice and institutional leadership.
“I believe the Ghana Journalists Association must be a strong voice for its members and a pillar for press freedom and professionalism,” she stated shortly after filing her nomination. “I am committed to building a more inclusive, responsive, and empowered Association that works for every journalist.”
Madam Ekpe’s campaign centers on promoting media professionalism, deepening institutional reforms, enhancing training opportunities, and strengthening protections for journalists. Her record of service and accessibility has earned her widespread respect among peers, many of whom see her as a natural choice to help reposition the Association in a fast-evolving media landscape.
She urged all journalists to take an active interest in the affairs of the Association and come out in their numbers to vote on June 30, 2025, for a leadership team that understands their needs and shares their aspirations.
“As Vice President, I will prioritize the creation of opportunities for capacity building, professional advancement, and member welfare,” she said. “I stand ready to serve—not with promises, but with action and accountability.”
The GJA Elections Committee opened nominations on May 16, 2025, inviting members in good standing to contest for positions including President, Vice President, General Secretary, Treasurer, Organizing Secretary, Public Affairs Officer, and various regional leadership roles.
With momentum already building around her candidacy, many in the media fraternity believe Madam Rebecca Ekpe is the leader best positioned to help chart a new course for the Association, one rooted in unity, professionalism, and progress.
