Asiedu Nketia Fights GHC20m Defamation Suit, June 18
National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has taken to the witness box in an Accra High Court to vigorously defend himself in a GHC20 million defamation suit brought against him by former Auditor-General and current Audit Service Board Chairman, Professor Edward Dua-Agyemang.
The long-standing case, filed in 2018, took a dramatic turn on May 29, 2025, when Mr. Asiedu Nketia—popularly known as General Mosquito—gave his evidence-in-chief following growing public speculation that he had abandoned the matter.
The lawsuit stems from comments allegedly made by Asiedu Nketia on Accra-based Neat FM, where he reportedly accused Prof. Dua-Agyemang of fabricating audit reports during his tenure and claimed those actions led to his expulsion from the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG). Prof. Dua-Agyemang strongly denies the allegations and insists he has remained a member in good standing since 1978, a fact confirmed by a 2018 letter from ICAG President, Prof. Kwame Adom-Frimpong.
During proceedings, Mr. Gary Nimako, counsel for the plaintiff, concluded the cross-examination of Nii Oko Dzane, who had earlier testified against Prof. Dua-Agyemang as Chairman of the Citizen Vetting Committee.
Asiedu Nketia’s lawyer, Samuel Cudjoe, subsequently requested to amend parts of his client’s witness statement to reflect his current role as NDC National Chairman instead of his previous position as General Secretary—at the time the alleged defamatory comments were made. Justice Audrey Kocuvie Tay granted the request and directed that the amended statement be served on both the court and plaintiff’s counsel.
The court has adjourned the case to June 18, 2025, for continuation.
In a moment of levity after court proceedings, General Mosquito walked up to Prof. Dua-Agyemang and said, “You will litigate to your death,” prompting a silent smile from the plaintiff.
