Stop Agencies From Intimidating McDan, Other Ghanaian Businesses – NDC Organisers Tell President
The Greater Accra Constituency Organisers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have expressed deep concern over what they describe as increasing intimidation and harassment of some prominent Ghanaian entrepreneurs, particularly the founder and CEO of the McDan Group of Companies, Dr. Daniel McKorley.
Addressing a press conference on behalf of the group, Mr. Ellis Amartei, Deputy Regional Secretary, highlighted the worrying trend where successful business figures are allegedly being targeted by certain government appointees under the guise of investigations, with what appears to be a deliberate attempt to tarnish their reputation and undermine their enterprises.
“We have observed with grave concern how some renowned Ghanaian entrepreneurs, especially in the Greater Accra Region, are being subjected to undue pressure and investigations that border on harassment. Dr. Daniel McKorley, a man who has created numerous jobs for the youth and contributed immensely to the local economy, is currently facing such troubling developments,” Mr. Amartei stated.
The group noted that such acts, if left unchecked, could derail efforts to implement the NDC's flagship 24-Hour Economy agenda, which relies heavily on public-private partnerships to boost job creation and economic growth.
They emphasized that rather than intimidating business leaders, the government should be creating a conducive environment for them to thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development.
“Dr. McKorley is a national asset. Any attempt to unjustly discredit or disrupt his work is a direct threat to the development of the Greater Accra Region and the country at large. We urge President John Dramani Mahama and the Presidency to immediately intervene and call these agencies and their officers to order,” Mr. Amartei added.
The Organisers further condemned what they perceive as selective justice, noting that while members of the previous administration accused of mismanaging state funds walk free, businesspeople who have committed no proven offense face investigations and public ridicule.
They warned that they will be closely monitoring developments surrounding the McDan Group and Dr. McKorley and pledged to continue advocating for the protection of businesses that support the country’s economic transformation.
“We are confident that our listening government will act swiftly and fairly in this matter,” they concluded.
