Seidu Agongo Champions Mahama Cares with GHS500k Support

The Executive Chairman of Alive Industry Group, Alhaji Seidu Agongo, has donated GHS500,000 to support the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as the Mahama Cares initiative. The gesture is in response to a national call by former President John Dramani Mahama to corporate Ghana to help tackle the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in the country.

Speaking at the event, Alhaji Agongo, who also operates a dialysis center, described the initiative as one that deeply resonates with the everyday struggles of ordinary Ghanaians.

"Each dialysis session costs about GHS700, and patients are required to undergo three sessions a week. That’s roughly 12 sessions a month. For many in our country who can barely afford food, this treatment is simply out of reach," he lamented.

He explained that it is this reality that moved him to support the Mahama Cares program with half a million cedis. “I believe this initiative touches the very foundation of our society. My business can only thrive in a healthy environment. Supporting this fund is both a humanitarian and practical decision,” he noted.

Alhaji Agongo expressed gratitude to the Minister of Health for his dedication, and commended President Mahama for launching such a bold and compassionate initiative. “This is not for himself; it’s a fight for the wellbeing of every Ghanaian,” he said.

The Mahama Cares initiative, officially launched on 29th April, aims to provide holistic care for individuals battling NCDs, offering support across prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. With alarming statistics showing that two out of every four deaths in Ghana are due to NCDs, the program seeks to reverse this trend through collective action and strategic support.

Alhaji Agongo's donation marks one of the biggest individual contributions so far and sets a compelling example for other corporate bodies and individuals to emulate.
