Minister to MMDAS: Lead with Unity, Integrity
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Hon. Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, has called on newly confirmed Chief Executives to lead with vision, unity, and purpose in driving the development agenda of their respective assemblies. Speaking during the confirmation processes held for La Dadekotopon, Korle Klottey, and Accra Metropolitan Assemblies, the Minister reminded Assembly Members of their constitutional responsibility to put public interest above politics.
She particularly underscored the strategic role of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), describing it as “the heartbeat of Greater Accra,” and stressed that its leadership must exemplify excellence in governance. “Accra cannot afford stagnation. The people expect results, and it starts with strong, selfless leadership,” she emphasized.
Hon. Ocloo also urged the incoming Chief Executives to prioritize transparency, sanitation, urban planning, and youth employment. “Your duty is not to a party, but to the people,” she said. “You must work hand in hand with your Assemblies to tackle the real challenges on the ground.”
During the ceremony, Michael Kpakpo Allotey was unanimously confirmed as the new Chief Executive of the AMA after securing all 30 valid votes cast. His election, conducted by the Electoral Commission at the Accra City Hall, marked a fresh chapter for the capital.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Allotey thanked President John Dramani Mahama for the appointment and promised to "restart Accra" with urgency and faith. “I carry this baton with humility and determination,” he said, pledging to leverage the experience of past leaders while pushing for innovation.
Traditional leaders, Assembly Members, party officials, and residents attended the lively confirmation ceremony, which was filled with drumming, dancing, and a call to action.
