Mahama Cares Gains Boost From Telecel Group
The Group CEO of Telecel Group, Moh Damush, has praised the Mahama Cares Initiative, officially known as the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, describing it as a critical platform for corporate organizations to contribute meaningfully to Ghana's healthcare sector.
Speaking during the donation of medical equipment to support the initiative, Mr. Damush said Telecel is deeply committed to advancing healthcare in Ghana, with a particular focus on cancer diagnostics.
“We are committed to the improvement of the healthcare sector in Ghana, and in particular, cancer diagnosis,” he stated. “We have chosen to specifically donate equipment to the Mahama Care Initiative in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. With this contribution, we will equip three diagnostic centers for cervical cancer, which will help detect at least 2,800 undiagnosed cases annually and impact thousands of women.”
The donation includes not only diagnostic equipment but also all necessary disposable supplies to keep the centers fully operational for at least the next two years. Mr. Damush emphasized that while the exact financial value of the donation was not immediately available, the priority for Telecel was the scale of impact rather than the cost.
“These centers will benefit no less than 10,000 women in the next two years,” he noted. “This is just the beginning, and we are committed to assessing the impact and expanding our efforts in the fight against cervical cancer in Ghana.”
The Mahama Cares Initiative
Launched by former President John Dramani Mahama, the Mahama Cares Initiative—formally known as the Ghana Medical Trust Fund—aims to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system by mobilizing public-private partnerships to provide essential equipment, services, and support. The initiative focuses on critical health needs, including cancer diagnosis and treatment, maternal health, and rural health infrastructure. It serves as a conduit for corporate institutions and philanthropists to directly support the health and wellbeing of Ghanaians.
