Donors Applauded as Health Fund Gains Boost

Minister of Health, Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has expressed heartfelt appreciation to Telecel Ghana and other corporate partners for their generous donations to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as MAHAMACARES. The donations were made during a brief ceremony held in support of the fund's sustainability and to coincide with the launch of the Maha Markets initiative.

The Minister said he was deeply moved by the contributions, noting that such support plays a critical role in enhancing healthcare delivery in the country, particularly in the fight against non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like cervical cancer.

"I am exceedingly excited that some of you have decided to take up the challenge by His Excellency the President to support this fund. There is a direct relationship between health and productivity—when people are healthy, they perform better. So investing in the treatment of NCDs is also an investment in the future of your companies," he stated.

Telecel Ghana donated advanced screening equipment for cervical cancer detection, including digital colposcopes and biopsy instruments. These tools will be distributed across three health centers in Ghana. Remarkably, Telecel has also committed to covering the operational expenses of these centers for the next two years, including consumables.

Other notable donations included GHS 500,000 from Alive Industries, GHS 50,000 from East Cantonments Pharmacy, and GHS 5,000 from PMI Energies.

Hon. Akandoh encouraged other corporate bodies and individuals to emulate these gestures, emphasizing that contributions of any amount are welcome. Donations can be made via the short code *255# or directly to the Ministry of Health's account at NIB, Airport City Branch, under the name "Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund."

“This fund is not only for treating complications but also for early detection and prevention. That is why your support means everything,” he concluded.
