DR. YAKUBU TOBOR YUSUF TAKES OVER AS REGISTRAR OF TMPC

 



At a smooth, solemn and simple handing over ceremony held at the Ministry of Health (MoH), Dr. Yakubu T. Yusuf took over the reins of leadership of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) as the new Registrar.

Before now, Significant progress in digitalization of operations has positioned the Council for greater efficiency and transparency, with practitioners now able to register online at www.tmpcghana.com and make payments through the short code *800*242# or directly into GCB Bank accounts.

The President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama has appointed Dr. Yakubu T. Yusuf as the new Registrar of the Council. Dr. Yakubu is a Medical professional who graduated from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with a Bachelor of Science in Herbal Medicine and received professional training at the Centre for Scientific Research into Plant Medicine in Mampong and clinical training at Tettey Quarshie Hospital.

Having served as Medical Director at Palza Medical Center and Kojach Medicare Clinic, and as Head of Medical Department at Quantum Medical Centre, Dr. Yakubu brings a wealth of knowledge to the Council through his extensive healthcare leadership experience. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated excellence in overseeing healthcare professionals, providing strategic leadership, and implementing operational management improvements.

At his previous positions, Dr. Yakubu maintained high patient satisfaction through quality healthcare and consultation while managing medication availability and dispensing. His consistent focus on quality service delivery and facility growth strategies has prepared him well for his new role at the TMPC, where he will work closely with practitioners, research institutions, and partner agencies to strengthen trust in Traditional and Alternative Medicine practice.

"I intend to leverage my experience in healthcare management and community engagement to elevate the status of traditional medicine in Ghana's healthcare system," stated Dr. Yakubu during the handover ceremony. "Traditional medicine has deep roots in our culture and contains valuable knowledge that we must preserve, validate through research, and integrate appropriately into our healthcare delivery systems."

Directors of the MoH who supervised this transition are Dr. Anastasia Yirenkyi, Director of Traditional and Alternative Medicine (TAMD) at the MoH who moderated the program, Dr. Hafiz Adams, Acting Director, Technical Coordination and Mr. Frank Raji, Director, General Administration.


The Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) is the regulatory body overseeing traditional medicine practitioners and facilities throughout Ghana. This includes indigenous healers, psychic practitioners, and alternative medicine specialists such as chiropractors, massage therapists, and acupuncturists. The Council ensures quality standards and patient safety while providing accreditation to institutions offering programs in complementary and alternative medicine education.
