24-hour Economy Will Create Jobs, Drive Growth – Dodoo
According to him, Ghana has all the necessary potential energy mix, talk of the natural gas, solar and hydro engines to power the 24-hour economy.
Base on this the secretariat is currently working with the Mimistery of Energy and all stakeholders in the energy sector to drive growth
Speaking at the 5th Anniversary of Energy News Africa Limited Public Lecture, Dr. Dodoo said the 24-Hour Economy (24HE+) is a policy designed to shift Ghana’s economy into a high-productivity, round-the-clock engine, leveraging energy, industry, and strategic reforms to drive growth.
He indicated that as President Mahama has articulated, the 24HE+ is not merely a policy but a transformative catalyst for food self-sufficiency, industrialization, export growth, and job creation; “it is a commitment to building an economy that serves all Ghanaians around the clock.”
If implemented, he revealed that the policy is expected to increase production and productivity as well as creating at least 1.7 million jobs, generate individual and collective wealth for Ghanaians, and provide sustainable employment.
He added that the would enhance the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth by 31.7% over 10 years adding that the policy is the most ambitious economic restructuring plan since independence having the potential to shift Ghana from an import-heavy economic model to a manufacturing and export-led economy and create jobs.
He further stated that this policy will boost industrial productivity and competitiveness, treating time as a strategic economic resource, reform the energy sector to support 24HE+ by ensuring lower energy costs, improved power availability, and reliability within the framework of a strong regulatory framework for sustainable growth.
Dr. Dodoo maintained that the 24-Hour economy involves strategic investments in our energy and green transition future once and for all with the view to making Ghana a 24-hour economy, robust and a powerhouse for West African markets and Africa, tapping into the AfCFTA to make this a reality,
The 24HE+ strongly endorses private sector participation in the transformation of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
“We commend the Minister for Energy and Green Transition for his visionary leadership in fostering private involvement in ECG operations “ he stated.
He concluded that the 24HE+ represents a generational shift, poised to redefine Ghana's global economic standing, let us transition from rhetoric to concrete action, building a reliable, resilient, and renewable energy system that powers not only industry but also job creation, national pride,” he said.
