NDC Petitioned Over Exclusion of Female DCE Aspirant

A petition has been submitted to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Vetting Committee challenging the exclusion of Ms. Doris Acharibia, the only female aspirant for the District Chief Executive (DCE) position in Kassena-Nankana West District. The petition, signed by concerned party members, calls for a review of the decision, citing the need for gender inclusion and fairness in the selection process.

Ms. Acharibia, a committed NDC member since 1994 and a Branch Communications Officer in the Achorbiisi Electoral Area, was one of twelve candidates who presented themselves for vetting on January 24, 2025, in Bolgatanga. Despite her extensive experience and dedication to grassroots development, she was not shortlisted among the final three nominees.

The petitioners argue that her exclusion contradicts the NDC’s commitment to gender balance and affirmative action, stressing that her candidacy would inspire more women to participate in politics.

"Ms. Acharibia’s inclusion would serve as a beacon of hope for women and young ladies aspiring to engage in governance," the petition states. "Denying her the opportunity reinforces harmful stereotypes that women cannot progress in political leadership."

The petition highlights Ms. Acharibia’s 29 years of experience in community development, particularly in advocating for women's and children's welfare. Supporters believe her leadership could enhance the NDC’s grassroots influence and promote inclusive governance in Kassena-Nankana West.

The petition has been copied to key figures, including NDC Flagbearer John Dramani Mahama, the National Vetting Committee, and the party’s Women’s Wing. The petitioners urge the NDC leadership to reconsider her candidacy, ensuring that fairness, merit, and gender inclusion remain central to the party’s values.
