Mahama, Traoré Discuss Security and Economic Cooperation
Former Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Burkina Faso as part of his diplomatic outreach to West African nations. His visit, centered on fostering stronger regional ties, comes amid shifting alliances in the region.
Mahama was received at the Ouagadougou airport by Burkina Faso’s military leader, Captain Ibrahim Traoré. The two leaders later held a private meeting, where they discussed security challenges, economic collaboration, and the future of diplomatic relations between their nations.
This visit is part of Mahama’s broader tour, which includes Niger and Mali—three countries that recently exited the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to form the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
Speaking on the recent geopolitical developments, Mahama noted that trust deficits have contributed to the fractures within ECOWAS. He emphasized the need to restore confidence between nations, urging for renewed dialogue and cooperation to ensure regional stability and development.
