Mahama Appoints COP Yohunu as New IGP


President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohunu as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP) in accordance with Articles 91 and 202 of the 1992 Constitution. The appointment was made in consultation with the Council of State.

COP Yohunu replaces Dr. George Akuffo Dampare as the head of the Ghana Police Service. With 40 years of experience in law enforcement, he is expected to lead efforts to modernize and transform the service to enhance public safety and security.

The appointment was announced by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Presidential Spokesperson, who expressed confidence in COP Yohunu’s ability to strengthen policing in Ghana.
