The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has assured the executives of the E-Sports Federation of the government's commitment to supporting the development and expansion of electronic sports in Ghana. He made this statement when he hosted the federation’s leadership at his office on Friday, February 28, 2025.
Hon. Adams emphasized that the ministry is open to working with all sporting disciplines, reaffirming that no sport would be sidelined. He noted that as the world moves towards electronic participation in sports, Ghana must embrace this transformation to remain competitive on the global stage.
The minister also urged the federation to take cybersecurity seriously to prevent potential threats that could undermine the sport’s progress. He pledged the ministry’s support in ensuring that e-sports becomes a well-established discipline in Ghana.
Highlighting the economic potential of e-sports, Hon. Adams pointed out that over $1 trillion is available globally for sports development. He expressed confidence that the E-Sports Federation has the capacity to tap into these opportunities. Additionally, he revealed that the ministry is reviewing the Sports Act and will engage stakeholders, including the federation, in finalizing the bill.
The President of the E-Sports Federation, Mr. Igor Boumekpo, congratulated the minister on his appointment and introduced the executive members. He shared the federation’s achievements since its official recognition by the National Sports Authority in 2024, including the organization of national and international tournaments.
Mr. Boumekpo reaffirmed his dedication to growing e-sports in Ghana and appealed for the minister’s support in establishing regional e-sports centers across the country to enhance accessibility and participation.
The meeting marks a significant step towards integrating e-sports into Ghana’s sporting landscape, with hopes of positioning the country as a leader in the industry.
