3. COFAAA, CIGHCI Push for Cocoa Farmers' Fair Pay
Mr. Assanvo, represented by Mrs. Tawiah Agyarko-Kwarteg, Deputy Executive Secretary and Technical Manager of CIGHCI, praised COFAAA for amplifying the voices of cocoa farmers across the continent. She emphasized that CIGHCI's mission aligns with COFAAA's objectives, focusing on economic, social, and environmental sustainability to improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers.
Mrs. Agyarko-Kwarteg highlighted the critical role of CIGHCI in securing fair pricing for cocoa farmers in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, who account for 70% of Africa’s cocoa production. She stressed the need for better farmer remuneration, local value addition, and climate-smart agricultural practices to ensure sustainability in the sector.
Touching on social sustainability, she underscored the importance of strengthening cooperative formations at the community level. This, she said, would enhance farmers' bargaining power, empower women, and improve household incomes.
COFAAA President and Global Coordinator, Comrade Adeola Adegoke, expressed gratitude to all participants and reiterated the association’s commitment to championing the rights and welfare of cocoa farmers across Africa.
