Zumanu Assures Ghanaians of Affordable Housing Progress

The General Manager of the National Home Ownership Fund at the Ministry of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Mr. Dela Zumanu, has assured Ghanaians that the government remains committed to bridging the housing gap through strategic affordable housing projects.

Speaking during a site visit by the newly appointed Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei to project sites in Shai Hills, Mr. Zumanu noted that the project is nearly complete, with finishing touches underway.

“As you may have seen, the project is almost done. The roads, drains, and houses are all completed and painted. This enclave is becoming an economically important zone, and the housing development will further open up the area for economic activities,” he stated.

Mr. Zumanu explained that the National Home Ownership Fund plays a crucial role in financing homeownership, working with banks, developers, and consultants like the Tema Development Corporation (TDC) to make homes more accessible. Over the past eight years, the fund has facilitated the construction of over 500 housing units in three phases. The first phase of 204 units was sold on mortgage terms of up to 20 years at below-market interest rates. The second phase combined cash sales with affordable housing, while the third phase, comprising 129 two- and three-bedroom apartments, is nearing completion.

He acknowledged Ghana’s housing deficit of approximately 1.8 million units but emphasized that the government has been implementing policies to make housing more affordable.

“The government is committed to producing homes that workers can pay for over a long period. The new minister’s presence here today shows his dedication to ensuring continued investment in affordable housing,” he added.

With the final phase of the Shai Hills project nearing completion, Mr. Zumanu remains optimistic that further investments will expand housing opportunities for Ghanaians.
