Reckless Driver Drops Passengers Midway to Accra
Passengers traveling from Konongo in the Ashanti Region to Accra on a white mini Transit bus with registration number GR-5585-23 were left stranded on February 4, 2025, when the driver abruptly ended the journey midway.
According to victims, they boarded the vehicle after being assured by both the driver and his mate that their final destination was Accra. Along the way, more passengers joined, including some from Bunso, all with the expectation of reaching Accra safely.
However, their journey took an unexpected turn when, upon reaching a town called Medeia, just after Nsawam, the driver suddenly announced that he was no longer continuing to Accra. He demanded that all passengers alight immediately, causing confusion and frustration.
A heated argument broke out as passengers protested against the driver’s decision. But instead of providing an explanation, he resorted to insults and insisted they get off his vehicle. With no other option, some passengers had to scramble for alternative transport, incurring extra costs and delays.
Further investigations revealed that this was not an isolated incident. Eyewitnesses in Medeia claimed that the driver had a habit of deceiving passengers, promising to take them to Accra but frequently abandoning them along the way.
Effects on Passengers
1. Financial Loss – Passengers were forced to pay extra fares to reach their final destination, making the trip more expensive than planned.
2. Delays and Missed Appointments – Many were in a hurry to Accra for work, medical appointments, or personal commitments, and this unexpected stop caused serious delays.
3. Safety Risks – Being dropped off in an unfamiliar area can expose passengers to potential dangers such as theft, harassment, or getting lost, especially at night.
4. Emotional and Mental Stress – The incident left passengers frustrated, angry, and feeling deceived, creating unnecessary anxiety during their journey.
Call for Action
Passengers are calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take urgent action against such reckless drivers. They urge authorities to introduce strict monitoring systems and undercover passenger enforcement teams to track and arrest drivers who engage in such fraudulent and irresponsible behavior.
Traveling should be safe and reliable, not a gamble where passengers are left stranded due to a driver’s selfish decisions. The time for accountability is now!
