Mutawakilu Vows to Improve Water Access in Ghana
Ghana Wated (GWL) has announced the appointment of Hon. Adam Mutawakilu as its Acting Managing Director. His appointment, made by President John Dramani Mahama, is in line with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and will take effect pending approval by the Board in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
In his first address to GWL staff, Hon. Mutawakilu expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to collaborate with all stakeholders to advance the company’s mission. Acknowledging the vital role of GWL in providing quality and uninterrupted water supply, he emphasized his commitment to ensuring that underserved communities are not left behind.
“I may not have an extensive background in water management, but I bring experience in energy, finance, and governance. I am eager to learn from and work with the dedicated professionals at Ghana Water Limited,” he said.
Hon. Mutawakilu, a former Member of Parliament for Damongo (2013–2020) and Ranking Member of the Mines and Energy Committee, has a strong background in public administration, finance, and governance. His academic credentials include an MSc in Development Finance from the University of Ghana, an MSc in Energy Economics from GIMPA, and an MPhil in Petroleum and Oil Studies from the University of Cape Coast.
Before his appointment, he served as the District Chief Executive for West Gonja and held the position of Head of Treasury at the University for Development Studies (UDS). His experience in governance and policy-making is expected to drive Ghana Water Limited’s strategic objectives forward.
GWL reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring sustainable and reliable water supply across the country. The company expressed confidence in Hon. Mutawakilu’s leadership and pledged full support in achieving the President’s vision for the water sector.
