Mahama Orders Review of Security Recruitment Process

The Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has inaugurated a committee to assess and reform recruitment processes across Ghana’s security agencies. The committee will review recruitment into the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, and other related agencies.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Mohammed-Mubarak stressed the government’s commitment to building a professional and accountable security sector. He noted that concerns had been raised about the fairness and transparency of the 2024 recruitment processes, making a review necessary. “We must ensure recruitment is based on merit and free from irregularities,” he stated.

The committee, chaired by security expert Yaw Akrasi Sarpong, comprises retired senior officers and legal professionals. It has been tasked with assessing the integrity of past recruitment exercises, ensuring adherence to due process, and recommending reforms. The committee is expected to complete its work within two weeks.

To support its operations, the government has pledged financial and logistical assistance. The final report will guide policy changes aimed at strengthening the credibility of Ghana’s security institutions.
