Kwahu Chiefs Support Kantamanto Market Rebuilding Efforts

In a show of solidarity, the Kwahu Traditional Council, led by its Paramount Chief, Dasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, has donated GH¢200,000 to support the reconstruction of the Kantamanto market, which was ravaged by fire. The devastating blaze destroyed the entire market, resulting in losses worth millions of cedis.

A delegation, including the Chiefs of Tafo, Pepease, and Abetifi, presented the donation to the committee overseeing the market’s rebuilding efforts. Mr. Akins Boakye Mensah, a member of the reconstruction committee, expressed profound gratitude to the chiefs and the people of Kwahu for their generosity.

He revealed that progress has been made in rebuilding the market, with some structures already erected and roofing sheets installed. However, he emphasized the urgent need for a perimeter fence to enhance security.

"As part of new security measures, we have decided that no one will be allowed to sleep in the market, and cooking within the market will also be prohibited," Mr. Akins stated.

He assured traders that every donation received would be accounted for, and funds meant for victims would be distributed fairly. Additionally, those who used personal resources for reconstruction would be reimbursed upon submission of receipts.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Chief of Abetifi reaffirmed Kwahu’s commitment to supporting victims, highlighting that some Kwahu natives were also affected by the disaster. He urged the government to implement measures to prevent future fire outbreaks, acknowledging Kantamanto Market’s vital role in reducing unemployment in Ghana.

The generous donation from the Kwahu Traditional Council is expected to significantly aid the rebuilding process and bring relief to the affected traders.
