GIS Boss Calls for Probe into Bus Purchases
The Controller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS), Kwame Asuah Takyiwaa (Esq), has called on the Minister for Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, to establish an investigative body to probe the procurement of 20 new 30-seater buses for the Service. Speaking during the Minister’s maiden visit to the GIS Headquarters in Accra, he expressed concerns over allegations of misconduct surrounding the purchase.
According to Takyiwaa, some officers have raised suspicions of mismanagement and personal gain in the acquisition process, with certain media outlets also questioning the integrity of the deal. He emphasized the importance of clearing the air, stating that an independent investigation would protect the reputation of the Controller-General’s office and the Service as a whole.
Beyond the call for an inquiry, the Controller-General lauded the significant progress GIS has made over the years, including improvements in infrastructure, accommodation for officers, and manpower development. He highlighted the establishment of a tactical training school and the construction of housing units in Kumasi as part of the Service’s modernization efforts.
Takyiwaa reaffirmed GIS’s commitment to national security and migration management, stressing that the Service’s newly launched 2023–2029 strategic plan aims to enhance border management, counter-terrorism efforts, and resource optimization. He expressed confidence that under the leadership of Hon. Muntaka, GIS would continue advancing its operational efficiency and collaboration with the Ministry of Interior.
