ACEG Condemns Vandalism but Defends NDC Grassroots Takeover of Offices

At a media encounter held at the Freedom Center in Kokomlemle, Accra, on January 9, 2025, the Executive Director of Arise for Change for Economic Growth (ACEG), D. S Mahama, addressed pressing issues arising after the inauguration of President John Dramani Mahama.

ACEG expressed concern over reports of NDC supporters allegedly invading and locking up government institutions, disrupting civil servants' duties. While the group previously urged NDC members to safeguard state assets by taking over offices after the swearing-in of the President, they condemned acts of vandalism.

D. S Mahama criticized Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, for calling for the arrest of party activists involved in the takeovers. According to Mahama, such arrests would undermine efforts to prevent outgoing appointees from covering up malpractices.

“Where was Ashie Moore when the NPP tried to rig the elections? These grassroots members protected the change Ghanaians voted for. Arresting them now would betray their sacrifices,” Mahama stated.

ACEG emphasized that no arrests were made when President Mahama handed over power eight years ago, and no arrests should occur now. The group encouraged NDC activists to continue their operations responsibly, ensuring that civil servants are not targeted.

The Executive Director highlighted the success of these actions, including the retrieval of vehicles allegedly stolen by outgoing appointees. He also reiterated ACEG’s significant role in securing the NDC’s victory, boasting over 500,000 members nationwide.

D. S Mahama concluded by urging unity within the party and thanked members for their efforts in achieving victory.
