My Vote - My Voice Group Raises Concerns Over Electoral Integrity
The My Vote - My Voice group, led by its convenor Mr. Gold Arhinfo, has expressed grave concerns over the possibility of electoral malpractice in Ghana's upcoming general elections. Speaking at a press conference titled “Will the Electoral Commission of Ghana Temper with Our Electoral Results?”, Mr. Arhinfo underscored the need for vigilance and transparency in the electoral process to safeguard Ghana's democracy.
Reflecting on Ghana's tumultuous political history between 1966 and 1982, when the country saw nine heads of state within 16 years, Mr. Arhinfo stressed the importance of protecting the democratic stability currently enjoyed. Quoting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s call to be “citizens, not spectators,” he urged all stakeholders to take an active role in ensuring the integrity of the Electoral Commission’s work.
Mr. Arhinfo highlighted discrepancies in the 2020 election results, presenting calculations to demonstrate avoidable errors that could have led to disputes and conflicts. He emphasized the role of polling agents and private collation centers in protecting the sanctity of the vote, calling on all Ghanaians to remain vigilant.
The group alleged plans by unidentified groups to impersonate Electoral Commission officials and tamper with results, urging parties to prepare for such eventualities by securing lighting and monitoring processes even after polls close.
In closing, Mr. Arhinfo appealed to electoral officials, security personnel, and political leaders to prioritize the nation’s interests. “No condition is permanent,” he reminded, quoting Galatians 6:7, “Whatever one sows, that will he also reap.”
The My Vote - My Voice group called on all Ghanaians to work collectively towards free, fair, and transparent elections, reaffirming Ghana’s position as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
