Team Strongman Advocates For Peaceful 2024 Elections
Team Strongman Foundation has demonstrated its commitment to fostering peace and harmony with a 2024 Peace Walk held on Saturday, aimed at promoting unity before, during, and after the upcoming general elections.
The walk, which commenced at 7:00 AM from Bannerman Park in Korle Gonno, took participants through key areas of Accra, including Korle-Bu and the Ghana Post Office, before concluding back at Bannerman Park.
In an interview, Madam Gladys Agbenu, Secretary of Team Strongman Foundation and Chairperson of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organizations in the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), expressed concern over rising tensions ahead of the elections. She referenced reports of gunfire in certain areas and emphasized the need for proactive measures to ensure peace.
“As youth and citizens of Ghana, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to ensure peace in our communities before, during, and after the elections,” Madam Agbenu stated.
She urged Ghanaians to prioritize unity, stressing that the consequences of chaos disproportionately affect vulnerable groups such as persons with disabilities, children, mothers, and the elderly. “We have only one Ghana. When there’s chaos, persons with disabilities and others have nowhere to run,” she added.
Madam Agbenu advised voters to head to polling stations on December 7, cast their ballots, and return home peacefully. She also cautioned against incitement, asking citizens to consider the plight of the less privileged who cannot flee during disturbances.
Her message extended to political leaders, urging them to rein in their supporters and avoid actions that could disrupt national peace. “Politicians should remember that they rely on the people to bring them to power. Without peace, elections cannot take place successfully,” she remarked.
The security agencies were not left out of her appeal. Madam Agbenu called for neutrality and professionalism, imploring officers to resist political interference and serve all Ghanaians fairly and vigilantly.
The Peace Walk, which saw significant participation from various groups, concluded with a renewed call for all citizens to safeguard Ghana’s peace and unity, as the country heads into a crucial election period.
