NDC Exposes Alleged NPP Election Rigging Scheme

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused Brigadier-General Michael Opoku, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, of orchestrating a plot to rig the December 7 elections in favor of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Speaking at a press conference on November 19, the NDC alleged that Brigadier-General Opoku is training thugs at military facilities and stockpiling illegal ballot papers, weapons, and military gear at his Kumasi residence.

According to the NDC, Brigadier-General Opoku has been instructed by President Akufo-Addo to carry out clandestine activities, including ballot stuffing and pink sheet swapping, starting with the December 2 special voting exercise. They further alleged that his actions are part of a deal to secure the position of Chief of Defence Staff if the NPP retains power.

The NDC described Opoku as a known figure from the 2019 Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election violence and called for his immediate removal. The party also urged the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector-General of Police to investigate these claims and ensure a peaceful and fair election process.
